Principles of Design

This is Balanced because it is simular on both sides but one is different, but it still looks balanced, because of the visual weight of objects, colors, texture, and space.

This artwork catches the viewers attention, because the dog, stands out compared to the other dog in the background. Usually the background is different shape, size, color, texture.. etc. This background you can clearly see the dog is a different color and the lighter dog stands out more.

This picture is movement because it has the lines that moves your eyes to the object which is the person, and by the person there is light and the rest of the picture is darker so it moves your eyes to the person. Movement can be directed along edges, lines, shape and color

Harmony in painting is the visually satisfying effect of combining similar, related elements, this picture is harmony because it has combined colors and all elements are related.
eg. adjacent colors on the color wheel, similar shapes.. etc.

This is a pattern because it is the repeating of an object or symbol.
example; the object it the little diamond things.

Repetition works with pattern to make the artwork seem active. The repetition of elements of design creates unity within the artwork. This is a repetition because it repeats the same object over and over again.

proportion is the feeling of unity created when all parts (sizes, amounts, or number) relate well with each other. When drawing the human figure, proportion can refer to the size of the head compared to the rest of the body.

 rhythm is when one or more elements of design are used repeatedly to create a feeling of organized movement. Variety is essential to keep rhythm exciting and active, and moving the viewer around the artwork.  Rhythm creates a mood like music or dancing.
